Five Drinks Into Reality TV: Survivor Season 24 Episode 5 (I)

Tom Reviews Survivor Season 24 Episode 5 "A Bunch of Idiots"

Tribe Switch! This was just the drama I was hoping for, although I'm worried that the results won't be what I'm hoping for.The new Manono tribe seems pretty seriously outgunned, but unfortunately it is also dominated by the men, meaning that through sheer luck the men have been given a huge advantage.

My thoughts on this new situation is that unless there is some major shakeup in tribe loyalty, the women will need to throw Immunity Challenges on the Salani tribe, so they can vote out men to have the numbers at the merge. Otherwise the men will have the numbers, and pick apart the women tribe.

So now let's get to player rankings! I award all members of the new Salani Tribe 13 points for their two victories, giving them both Immunity and the One World Beach.

1. Sabrina (64 points): Yay, my pick to win the whole thing has lasted the first five episodes! I hope she realizes that despite having the numbers within the new Salani Tribe, the women in general are in trouble. Something needs to be done to make sure that when the merge comes, she has the numbers including BOTH tribes. That could either mean throwing competitions, or trying to win the men they do have on their tribe to their side.

2. Kim (50 points): Welcome to the #2 spot! And congrats on finding one of the most lazily hidden immunity idols this game has ever seen. I'm interested to see this bond forming with Jay, though. Either seducing him to side with you at the merge, or creating a whole new sub alliance to take to the end are both good strategies. I don't know if I like you sharing the hidden immunity idol with Chelsea though. She seems to be loyal to you, but I wouldn't trust her to keep her mouth shut.

3. Chelsea (39 points): I hope you and Kim do something this season, and aren't just there for eye candy.

4. Alicia (35 points): Way to sell out the women. But seriously, that was probably your best move. I hate Colton, but he clearly has power, and at the least you've bought yourself another couple of tribal councils. Plus, there are cracks in Colton's alliance, you can use to your advantage. Let's hope you get the chance.

5. Mike (24 points): Okay, you dominated that Immunity challenge, but you were facing Leif so I have trouble counting that. This is also the point in the game where being physically dominant is no longer the best attribute to have. If Salani loses an Immunity, I think you're gone.

6. Monica (22 points): You're my favorite castaway to be voted out so far. I loved you, but you bought into Colton's BS.  You didn't have the mind for this game. I'm sorry.

7. Jay (22 points): He sort of fluked into the dominant tribe, but I really like the fact that he's trying to make moves. An alliance with Kim, Troyzan, and Chelsea could be a very good thing for you. He was at the bottom of a sort of 6 person alliance at Manono, so him jumping ship makes sense. He doesn't say a lot, and he doesn't sound super smart, but I appreciate that he's trying to play the game.

8. Troysan (17 points): I sort of like Troyzan. When the Misfits were first forming, I wanted him to do well. Since my growing hate for Colton has grown though, I've started disliking the other misfits as well. Guilty by association type of thing.  I have heard several people say they think he's getting a winner's edit though, and I can sort of see that. I don't necessarily buy that the winners get a special edit, since I don't think Sophie got one last season, but I hope if Troyzan does end up winning it's with the Jay and the girls alliance, and not the Misfits.

9. Leif (17 points): Jeff is an ass for picking on you during that immunity challenge. I was rooting for you to overcome and win despite the odds. Unfortunately I'm getting a vibe from you that you don't understand the strategy of this game, and are going to be in way over your head soon.

10. Christina (17 points):: If you're still around after the next Tribal Council, I'm giving you five points. You seem to be completely fucked.

11. Jonas (16 points): Okay. Now Jonas is in theory playing a pretty smart game. He's flying under the radar, and could in the future make a big move to win. Unfortunately, he's clearly not the type of player who will make a big move, as demonstrated by his willingness to kiss Colton's ass. Of course it could work out for Jonas if he ends up in the finals with Colton and Tarzan, but I really hope that doesn't happen.

12. Kate (14 points): Positive points! She lucked out in the Tribal Swap.

13. Colton (9 points): Honestly, Colton is in a strong position to get to the final three, but I don't think he'll be able to follow through. I'm curious as to what his plan is for Alicia though. I think it will somehow lead to his undoing.

14. Tarzan (-2 points): I promised him Wild Card points, but man does he make a good case for not getting anything. His inability to remember names actually pisses me off.

Rating the Challenges: 7 out of 10

I'm just gonna combine the two for this episode, since my complain about both of them was the same. They were too simply physical, that they gave the new Salani Tribe too big of an advantage. We need more puzzles to balance things out!

Twist:

So besides the Tribe Swap, the two tribes also made off for new camps. This seems like abandoning One World to me. I don't think the One World twist was fully utilized. I think it would work better if the tribes weren't divided by sex.
