Five Drinks Into Off the Air TV: Lost Episode 31 (I)

Tom Reviews Lost: Season 2 Episode 7 "The Other 48 Days"

So I'm going to do something different for this episode review. I'm going to go through this episode scene by scene, stopping continuously to both break down what just happened, and also note what was going on in the Front Side of the Island with what is going on in the Tail End. I have no idea if this is going to work, and my timeline sucks, so it probably won't. But here we go anyways!

The video I'm watching is 44:25. So the time stamps will be based on where I am in this version of the video.

:34. I guess we're skipping the previously on, and jumping right into the episode. The Tail End just crashed into the Ocean! Okay, I don't think there's any real way anyone could survive that crash. Should I just suspend my disbelief, or is this where I start thinking they all must be dead, and this is some sort of afterlife?

01:05. Alright, the survivors are in the ocean. It's Day 1, thank you for feeding that to me writers. That's going to help a lot. So just like the front end, the Tail Enders are in chaos. We see Anna Lucia, and Echo.

01:58. There's still chaos. And that little boy has a teddy bear. He's the kid the Others took, isn't he?

02:32. Anna Lucia manages to save the girl, whose name is Emma.

03:26. Title sequence. Shit looks bad. We know there were initially 23 survivors of the Tail End. We know 5; Anna Lucia, Libby, Cindy, Bernard, and Echo, and we just met the boy and Emma. So that's 7.

03:39. Title sequence over. I've never commented on it, but although I like the tone the title sets for the show, I've always preferred longer title sequences that shows us the faces of the main characters. I don't think that would work for this show, but there you go. Just my preference. I like the Angel credits probably the most out of any I've ever seen.

04:14. Echo leaves the children with Cindy(?) Is that Cindy? I can't really tell. Prepare for me to have to correct myself.

04:36. First Libby sighting. That guy's leg is bad. I don't want to have to see it again

04:51. Libby tells what seems like a dumb story, and then surprises me by twisting that guy's leg.

04:52. I had a lot of computer drama at this point, so 20 minutes have passed in real time since this, and I've had a cheese quesadilla.

05:18. Poor Tail Enders didn't have Jack to step up and save them all.

05:44. Bernard somehow ended up in a tree?

07:00. I like that Anna Lucia made Bernard help himself. That was smart, and I guess this is where she starts to become the leader?

07:50. Ah. Here's Goodwin. He seems to spark with Anna Lucia. Also, I guess the Front Siders got all the supplies, because the Tail Enders seem to have got nothing.

08:50. They got the fire started. Bernard refers to black people as African American? That seems weird, since he's married to one. He doesn't appear to share Rose's faith.

10:20. So, that's the Others taking three, like we knew happened. Yet, all we see is Echo with a rock. Is that what the Others do? They cause people to go hysterical and kill themselves? Then what about Ethan? And the ship that took Walt? Okay, no that can't be all they do.

10:26. Day 2. This is when the Front Siders found out about the mysterious transmission.

10:51. No one asks whether Echo killed them? Really?

11:19. Oh. The people Echo killed were the Others. Wow. He's a bad ass.

11:25.Wait. Maybe Echo is one of the Others? Maybe he's like Ethan Rom? Oh, is he having them lead him to the other camp so he can take Claire's baby?

11:46. Nathan is this guy's name. Also they appear to be having the same Beach vs. safer camp debate that the Front Siders had.

12:22. Day 3. This is when they killed the Air Marshall on the Front Side.

12:40. The injured leg guy's name appears to be Donald.

"He'll be the fourth to go." Out of 23, so there are 19 others. Anna Lucia, Libby, Cindy, Bernard, Echo, boy, Emma, Goodwin, and Nathan make 9. So 10 more.

13:02. Day 5. This was when Locke started hunting boar.

13:31. Day 7, Donald died on Day 5. Day seven was when Jin attacked Michael I think.

13:53. Ooh, there are chickens on the Island.

14:48. So Echo stopped talking after killing the Others.

14:52. Day 12.  I'm not quite sure, but I think this is about when Hurley made the golf course, and when Claire was abducted.

15:40. Anna Lucia is the leader of the Tail Enders, and Nathan appears to be the rebel.

16:45. I think I heard the names Jim and Nancy. This appears to be the second Others attack we heard about from Anna Lucia.

17:34. The Others have a list of which survivors they want to take? What's their criteria?

19:02. Did Nathan sell them out? Was Echo telling Sawyer his name the first time he had talked in 48 days?

19:16. Day 15. The Tail Enders leave their beach. I don't think anything happened with the Front Siders on this day.

20:19. Day 17. The Tail Enders have made their new camp. I think this was when Sawyer and Kate found the Marshall's case with all the guns.

21:01. Day 19. I don't know why Anna Lucia is digging that whole. My time line sucks, but this might have been about when Sayid and Shannon got together.

21:25. Oh duh. The hole is the Pit! Anna dug it so that she could interrogate Nathan. That makes sense sort of.

22: 23. They don't have the plane manifest, so they have no way of knowing who was on the plane.

23:21. Day 23. He was totally on the plane I predict. I think this is when Claire came back? I'm going to be curious to find a timeline once I finish the series to see how far wrong I am.

25:09. Anna Lucia is going off the deep end already. I don't know anyone on the Front Siders who acted like this.

26:51. Holy shit! Goodwin killed Nathan! He's one of the Others! That's a bold twist.

26:54. Day 24 I think this is the day Ethan Rom terrorized the Front Siders.

27:42. Day 26. They move camp again. Is this when the first Raft was burned?

28:10. Day 27. This might have been when Hurley chased after Danielle? I'm really confused at this point by the timeline.

29:35. The Dharma Initiative bunker! Okay, that glass eye is going to be relevant somehow.

30:30. They found the radio. I think Anna suspects Goodwin.

32:40. Is Goodwin revealing actual information about the Others? Did they somehow get that knife from Locke? Ethan spent time with Locke, and maybe he could have gotten them that knife before the second attack.

33:08. Anna Lucia knows her military stuff.

35:32. So now we know what happened to Goodwin. I guess Anna must lie about this to everyone else though. I wonder why? Also, the Others are not killing the people on their list. They're taking them. Why?

36:09. Day 41. I think the Raft was pretty much built by this time.

36:34. Holy shit! That's Boone's voice! Okay, so this is when he died. Wow, I called that Day 30, but I had previously thought the last episode was Day 33, and was backtracking because of the stupid "month" comment. I'm still pretty far off, but I like to the link between the two. Thanks for having that Boone radio signal mean something.

37:15. Anna Lucia has gone really dark already. She's given up on any type of hope.

38:28. Echo talks! Am I going to ship Echo/Anna?

39:30. Yes I am.

39: 33. Day 45. I think we're in season 2 territory now.

40:06. Jin!

41:01. We saw this before! This is Adrift!

41:52. Day 46. This slowmo is weird.

42:15. Day 47. Still weird.

42:42. Day 48. No! They're going to make us watch it again!

42:53. Is there a part of the Island where it's always raining? I haven't spoken about this before, but this is weird.

43:17. Shannon!!!

43:40. Lost!

Time to get a picture, and figure out how to rate this!

Rating: 10 out of 10.

I am rating it that way, because although in a way this was a giant flashback, there weren't any flashbacks to before the plane, and I made a promise to give the first episode without flashbacks a 10.

I don't think I will ever do a review this way again, because I did not enjoy this viewing experience very much. The episode was cool, and we got some more time spent on the Others.

I think overall, that this review is a total mess, but hey, I tried. It was something new. Trial and error. Whatever.
