Five Drinks Into Thursday Night TV: Some More Office (I)

Tom Reviews The Office: Season 8 Episode 18 "Last Day in Florida"

I hope this is the last season of The Office. I think there's at least an okay series finale still in the bank somewhere that can be used to end this season and the series, and I hope the writers know this and can pull it off.

I think the last card the series has is Erin and Andy. Somehow the finale will feature them getting together. I did actually find Erin funny this episode, and was a little heartbroken for Andy that she wasn't coming back.

The "Kevin likes cookies" plot was dumb. It was a lame B story, that shows that the series has lost  that IT factor that made it worthwhile. I used to enjoy the random B stories. Not anymore.

I'm glad that both Nelly and Packer are gone from the show.

Robert California is a total douche. Him deciding to fire someone randomly seems completely unnecessary and heartless. I miss David Wallace, who seemed like he added some heart to a corporate "suit" role. Ah, the good old days.

Okay, seeing Jim and Dwight fight because Jim wanted to help Dwight was kind of sweet. I'm curious as to how the series finale is going to handle this relationship. I think this season has done a good job of bringing their relationship back to life, and clearly the finale will somehow focus on something between these two men.

I also really felt for Dwight losing out on yet another job opportunity. He was a terrible branch manager, but he really does deserve some sort of promotion.

I think my final prediction is that Andy and Erin will end up in Florida, Dwight will become Branch Manager, and Jim will take his old job as Assistant to the Branch Manager.

Rating: 5 out of 10.

Not a great episode. Maybe when the series is over, and I can watch the thing as a whole, I will see this episode as a piece in the overall puzzle, and view it in a more positive light. I hope so. There's still some life here for the series to end on a positive note.
